Train-the-Trainer Advanced on Facilitation

Train the Trainer Advanced 2024: Deep Dive into Facilitation

Will you join 10 experienced trainers for 2 live days in Zagreb or Amsterdam to bring your facilitation skills to a whole new level?

Every year Trainers Toolbox delivers different Train the Trainer Advanced for trainers who want to dive in deeper and extend their skills. This year we talk about facilitation.

To be a great trainer means to navigate the conversations and learning experiences in a way…

In other words, to facilitate.

Facilitation is in the core of impactful learning. Without it, we as trainers either turn too much into presenters (and with that diminish our impact), or we don’t have enough of control of the process to successfully guide the group to the learning goal.

While facilitation is all about giving a lot of ownership to participants, it is also about having a fruitful, insightful process – and that is the responsibility of the facilitator.

Facilitation is the key to create truly impactful and memorable – if not lifechanging – learning experiences.

Yet, HOW of facilitation is by no means easy. It’s one of the hardest skillsets that a trainer needs to master.

How to broaden the process and make it more creative? How to naturally narrow it down and guide towards conclusion, without being pushy?
How to master the art of asking powerful questions?
How to encourage participants to engage deeper… and how to stop them from taking over too much of the conversation from others?
Those are just some of many many questions that facilitator needs to master – not just in theory but also in practice.

Mastering these skills is exactly where Train the Trainer Advanced on Facilitation comes in.

It is your chance to immerse yourself into practicing the art & science of facilitation for 2 live days, in an inspiring group of peer trainers, and to gain feedback, ideas, tools, inspiration and many many examples from practice.

Will you be there?

In autumn 2024 in Zagreb and Amsterdam, Train the Trainer Advanced will be a deep dive into Facilitation.

Upcoming events: Train the Trainer Advanced on Facilitation in autumn 2024 in Zagreb and Amsterdam

Facilitation is a crucial skill for every trainer – it allows us to deliver a learning experience that is deep and engaging, creates stronger ownership and participation from the learners’ side, and makes us more flexible and adaptable to the needs & preferences of the group.

Yet it is one of the most challenging skills for a trainer to develop – while it has some clear principles, overall it feels more like an art than science. Becoming a great facilitator comes only with experience – and building that experience and improving is a never ending journey.

That is why our Train the Trainer Advanced in 2024 will focus on the art of facilitation: practicing our facilitation skills, gaining feedback and ideas from experienced group of trainers, and exploring new tools, approaches and techniques to become better facilitators.

The training will be designed in a way that each trainer (they will be 10) will have a topic related to facilitation to prepare and deliver/facilitate. This way, we will go through diverse topics and facilitation styles, and each person will get a chance for feedback from experienced peers. There will also be topics that I (Mirna) will be facilitating and many discussions and exchanges of best tools and practices.

Apart from basing the event on practice of facilitation and personal feedback, some of the topics we will be covering::

  • focusing a lot on how to get better at diverging, and especially at converging

  • the art of asking great questions (different type of questions, being goal oriented in asking questions, perhaps designing set of questions for a specific case study)

  • sharing the best books about facilitation and short summary of the best insights from each

  • briefly touching on space facilitation and visual/graphic facilitation

  • different dimensions of facilitation (eg group vs individual, goal vs process, pace etc) and exploring each in reflection on their own style as facilitator

  • tips for more participation and ownership

  • using your voice and body language as facilitation tools

Sounds like the right experience for you to join? Sign up, and bring your facilitation skills to a whole new level!

How Train the Trainer Advanced looks like?

Every Train the Trainer Advanced is different, as it is hugely co-created by trainers who join, and adapted to their specific needs and goals through a series of meaningful, custom-designed challenges and exercises.

That is why the group is formed a couple of months before the event – to make sure there is enough of time to survey the needs and preferences of the trainers joining, and for everyone to complete their preparatory tasks

All participants will deliver a session on the event with the goal of getting insightful feedback from other trainers, as well as exposing the group to diverse trainers’ styles and approaches.

The program itself is build in a blended way – one virtual module of 3h, and two live days.

For the each group, the program is custom built for the trainers who join, with custom chosen topics, custom preparation tasks and exercises.

Who is this program for?

Train the Trainer Advanced by Trainers Toolbox is primarily designed for the Train the Trainer alumni who, after few years of delivering trainings and putting their Train the Trainer knowledge in practice, wish to deepen their experiences and skills.

To build diversity of experiences, each group has a couple of spots for Train the Trainer graduates of other Train the Trainer programs.

The ideal time to attend is 1-3 years after finishing the Train the Trainer  (although that is not a strict rule).

The prerequisite for attending this course is to have finished Train the Trainer at Trainers Toolbox to assure all participants have a similar understanding of the learning process.

Since graduating from a one-year-long Train the Trainer education in 2008, Mirna kept delivering training and deepening her knowledge and skills as a trainer. Over the past 14 years, she delivered at a range of training events, building extensive experience in “classical” topics such as communication, presentation, teamwork and leadership, but also rich experience in a broad range of positive psychology topics, train advanced trainer tools and events. She is an NLP Master practitioner, as well as a certified coach since 2011, and loves enriching her training with the tools and techniques from these fields.

Having delivered for NGOs and non-profit organisations, startups and startup incubators, as well as conferences and corporate audiences for clients such as Cisco and L’Oreal, and in over 20 countries, Mirna is no stranger to diverse sectors, audience sizes and backgrounds, and able to adjust her training design and delivery, while keeping with evidence-based practices of experiential and adult learning.

As a founder and a head trainer of Happiness Academy, she keeps on building and delivering programs and workshops focused on designing life and career according to her own values and vision, strengthening wellbeing, personal strengths and resilience to challenges. All her programs are built on research-based practices and tools.

Over the years, Mirna delivered fourteen Train the Trainer programs and three Train Advanced Trainer programs, most of them in around 100h in duration and highly international groups of participants.

Mirna also runs Trainers Toolbox, an initiative to share tools and knowledge with trainers around the world.

What participants say?

I loved being part of Train the Trainer Advanced co-creation. This is more than a training. More than a personal grow, more than learning new things. It is a place where you connect on value’s level, under Mirna’s magical conceptual design for the training, with like-minded people with and from whom you are learning. It is a learning by doing, where no detail is misplaced. It is a way of practicing of “this is how adults learn”. It is a space of autonomy and accountability. It is a place of beauty and structure.”

Irina Hagiu, Trade Finance Business Practice Manager and a Trainer, Romania

Train the Trainer Advanced gave me great insights into what is possible when you want to create meaningful and fluent workshops. It inspires me everytime to be around people that share the same passion for education but in different niches. This Train the Trainer gave me opportunity to learn a lot more about what can I give as a trainer but also how to support myself in the process.
I would reccomend this to all interested in science based, engaging, fun and supportive ways od teaching and training others.”

Maja Zivanovic, trainer for horses & personal development with horses, Croatia

“Train the Trainer Advanced is a great opportunity to get in touch with other Trainers. Throughout the event I was able to share and gain experience with the other participants, while exploring new aspects within the world of training and facilitation.

Max Willie Georgi, Pharmacist & Trainer, Germany

“I would highly recommend the Train the Trainer Advanced program to anyone who has already enjoyed the fundamental trainer education and really wants to deepen their knowlegde, gain more experience and appreciate a safe space to grow and develop as a trainer/educator.  I loved that we could shape the events according to our wishes and needs.
As with the first Train the Trainer, Mirna created a warm, energetic atmosphere and a lasting learning experience.

Chiara Zeroni, psychologist, Germany

“I would always recommend Mirna’s trainings for trainers! Train the Trainer Advanced is my fourth training with Mirna (after Train the Trainer, Keys to Virtual Training and Brain-Based Learning) and every time I am still learning and re-learning about trainer methodology, myself and life. Thank you for that, Mirna!

Marija Malkoc Kust, scrum master & agile trainer, Croatia
